Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

MARRAKECH-IMLIL-IMNANE VALLEY-TACHEDDIRT

Your journey begins when we depart Marrakech at early morning. The relaxing drive over Mouly Brahim Gorge takes about an hour and a half and brings you into the foothills of the western portion of the High Atlas. We will arrive at the trailhead in Imlil (1745). The hike sets out through a beautiful region filled with streams and mountain paths, where, led by your very knowledgeable guide, you will hike 2 hours east toward Tizi N'Tamatert (2275m).

Passing through the village, your guide will lead you to a path leading up into pine and juniper forests. A stop at the Col of Tamatert allows you to take time to appreciate the view of the Imlil and Imnane valleys, with their many Berber villages built into the mountainsides in every direction. It is a remarkable and picturesque vista of the region. Here you will be able to see Jebel Oukaimeden in the distance (3270m.) We trek on along for another hour or so along the upper valley slopes, arriving at Ouanskera and Amgdoule villages (2140m.). You will find these villages set among the terraced slopes carved into the hard mountainsides. At a place nearby which is a popular camp site, lunch will be prepared for you. Afterward, you will trek upward through the valley along mule trails, arriving at Tachedirt (2305m.) Tachedirt is the oldest village in the Toubkal Massif. The evening will be spent pleasantly in a Berber gite, complete with a welcome hot shower.

Day 2

TACHEDDIRT-IAABASSEN-TMICHI

After breakfast, we will begin trekking toward the village of Timichi (1870m), at the western point of the Ourika Valley. Hiking slowly up to Tachedirt Pass (3205m) for 2 and ½ hours, bringing you to a place where you can take in the breath-taking, 360 degree view of Jebel Aksoual (3840) on one side and Bou Igenouane Mountain (3890m) and Angour (3620m). The lush, green Ourika Valley can be seen below. From this point we cross the pass and trek down toward the valley for another 2 and ½ hours, arriving at Iaabassene Village (2040m). Here lunch will be prepared next to a lovely, tranquil spring just beyond the village. After a relaxing lunch, we will continue in a northeast direction, descending for 2 hours trek into the ancient village of Timichi, which sits in among an old-growth orchard of nut trees. Here we take a delicious dinner and bed down in a traditional Berber guesthouse. Today's trek will take approx. 7 hours.

Day 3

TIMICHI-AGADIR N'AIT BOULMANE-SETTI FATMA-MARRAKECH

Today, after breakfast, set out hiking east, along a valley rich with fields of grain and fruit groves, a trek of of 5-6 hours that takes you through the villages of Isghouarne and Tiourdiw, and Agadir N'ait Boulmane. Finishing at the end of the lovely Ourika Valley and the famous Berber village of Setti Fattma. In a peaceful setting in an ancient grove near waterfalls outside of the village, lunch will be prepared by your cook. We also provide practical guidance on weather conditions, water, seasonal changes, and trekking essentials, helping you stay prepared in every season. Whether you’re climbing Mount Toubkal, exploring traditional Berber villages, or embarking on desert tours, our goal is to deliver an authentic, safe, and unforgettable trekking experience while supporting local communities through responsible tourism.

Berber Guesthouses

Experience authentic Berber hospitality by staying in a traditional guesthouse in the High Atlas Mountains. The accommodation is simple, clean, and comfortable, featuring cozy beds with foam mattresses. During your stay, our experienced cook prepares delicious homemade Moroccan meals using fresh local ingredients, giving you a true taste of Berber cuisine.

Camping

For those seeking a closer connection with nature, camping is available from June to October. We provide spacious, modern igloo-style tents designed for two people, and larger tents can be arranged for taller guests when requested in advance. Each campsite also includes a traditional Berber tent where guests can enjoy freshly prepared meals, relax, and share stories after a day of trekking. If you need accommodation before or after your trek, we can arrange a stay at our village.

Refuge

For high-altitude treks, the mountain refuge offers a warm and comfortable place to rest. Facilities include hot showers, Western-style toilets, a heated lounge with electricity, and dining areas where our team serves freshly cooked meals. To keep the refuge clean and comfortable for everyone, hiking boots are left outside, so we recommend bringing lightweight shoes or sandals for indoor use.

Preparing the right clothing and equipment will make your trek in the High Atlas Mountains safer and more comfortable. Weather conditions can change quickly, especially at higher elevations, so we recommend dressing in layers and bringing gear suitable for both warm days and cold mountain evenings.

Clothing for Trekking

  • Wear comfortable, well-broken-in trekking boots or lightweight hiking shoes with good grip.
  • Pack warm clothing, including a down or insulated jacket, a waterproof jacket, thermal base layers, fleece or wool sweaters, trekking trousers, and moisture-wicking T-shirts.
  • Don’t forget warm socks, gloves, a wool hat for cold mornings, and a sun hat or cap for daytime hikes.
  • Lightweight shoes or sandals are also recommended for relaxing at the guesthouse, mountain refuge, or campsite after each day’s trek.

Equipment for Trekking

Bring a trekking duffel bag or backpack for your main luggage and a comfortable daypack for essentials such as water, snacks, extra clothing, and your camera. We also recommend carrying a sleeping bag, reusable water bottles, sunglasses, trekking poles, a headlamp with spare batteries, sunscreen, lip balm, a basic first-aid kit, and a money belt for valuables.

Note: If you don’t have your own trekking gear, there’s no need to worry. Most essential equipment can be rented or purchased in Imlil at affordable prices, and our team will be happy to recommend reliable local outdoor shops before your adventure begins.
