Tour Overview
Travel from Marrakech through many little hamlets and Berber villages to the magnificent Western High Atlas Mountains. Trek past the villages of Imlil and Mzik. Visit a village in the Assif N’ait Mizane, overlooking ancient irrigated terraced fields of fruit trees and vegetables. Get over Tizi M’zik mountain (2479m), and descend through juniper trees.
We organize trekking in the Atlas Mountains – Hike off the beaten track through the highest and most scenic mountain range in North Africa, discovering authentic Moroccan villages.
Detailed Itinerary
Marrakech – Imlil – Tizi M’zik – Tamsoult Waterfalls – Tizi Oussem
After breakfast in Marrakech, we travel to Imlil (1h30 drive) passing by Tahnout, Moulay Brahim and Asni. Here, you will meet your guide and mules crew. When your stuff is loaded, we start our trail ascending to Tizi Mzik (2500m) which provides a fabulous scenery of Imlil and Azzaden valleys.
Enjoy lunch under junipers’ shade with surprising views of the Atlas Mountains. After lunch, we descend to visit the highest waterfalls in the region. We then retrace the same way down to meet the road that goes over Tizi Mzik, descending through juniper trees until we arrive at the village of Tizi Oussem (1850m). Overnight at a Berber guest house.
Tizi Oussem – Id Issa – Tizi Oudid – Mattat – Marrakech
Today’s trek will take us from Tizi Oussem down along the valley until we arrive at the village of Id Aissa (1800m). We join the eastward path over Tizi Oudid pass (2010m), which allows you to appreciate the views of the Imlil and Azzaden Valleys, and Berber villages built into mountainsides in every direction.
We trek on for another hour passing by Mattat Village until we arrive near the river of Agersioual Village (1600m), where you will get lunch under walnut trees and relax nearby the river. In the afternoon, transport will take you back to Marrakech.
