    Tour Details

5 DAY EXCURSION Located within TOUBKAL National Park, 67 km south of Marrakech, Jebel Toubkal is the highest peak in the Atlas Range, and the second highest in Northern Africa at 4167 m. It is the jewel in the crown of the Atlas Massif and hikers from around the world ascend the summit year round. The climb is not an arduous one, but the scree fields can be challenging and altitude does take some adjustment for those not accustomed to it.

    Tour Itinerary

    DAY1,Marrakech - Imlil.

Our day begins at 9 a.m. with departure from your hotel/riad Marrakech after breakfast. We will drive for an hour and a half, gradually rising out of the Marrakech plain to Imlil Valley. Upon arriving we will be welcomed at our guesthouse with the customary mint tea service, giving the opportunity to take in your surroundings. The first trek begins shortly before midday, bringing us to TIZI Mzik Pass at 2400 m. Here you will enjoy lunch before setting out for the descent back down to Imlil.

    DAY2,IMLIL-CHAMHAROUCH-TOUBKAL REFUGE

The second day we start early at 8:00 a.m. passing through Imlil Valley to Armed, the largest village in this region of the Atlas at 2000 m. From here we can overlook the fragrant juniper forest as we hike up to the holy site of Sidi Chamharouch shrine. Here we fortify ourselves with a hearty lunch before making a brief tour through the local marketplace. After our break we continue our climb toward Toubkal Refuge, the pace now slowing according to climate conditions and amount of snowfall. This can vary. Arriving late in the afternoon to the refuge, we will unload our gear, shower and enjoy hot tea and cake before bedding down for a good night's rest. Most necessary in preparation for the next day's ascent.

    DAY3,TOUBKAL REFUGE-JEBEL OUANKERIM

Our day begins with a steady-paced walk from the valley head to the Tizi Ouankerim Pass, continuing to the ridge of the summit at 4088 m. Here we get our first look at the majestic Toubkal Massif, with Jebel Toubkal crowning the range. The views are panoramic and breath-taking. We return approximately midday to the refuge where we will enjoy a much deserved afternoon of leisure and relaxation. The day's walk is 6 hours.

    DAY 4,TOUBKAL REFUGE-JEBEL TOUBKAL

Our day again starts early, before sunrise, to fortify ourselves and prepare for the ascent of North Africa's highest summit at 4167 m. The climb is challenging from the start, as we pass through scree and snow in a steep ascent before crossing the hard steppe of Tizi n'Toubkal at 4000 m. At the summit as the sin rises, we will be generously rewarded with broad, stunning vistas of the Atlas Range from the Marrakech plain to the edge of the Sahara (conditions permitting). Our descent follows the same path and we arrive back at the Refuge in time for a late afternoon lunch and some welcome relaxation.

    DAY 5,TOUBKAL REFUGE-IMLIL-MARRAKECH

We head back down to Imlil Valley today, retracing our steps through the juniper forest where we will once again stop for lunch in Chamharouch. Today's walk is 5 hours at an easy pace.
