Imlil, a tradional Berber village nestled in the foothills, is the most popular gateway to the majestic High Atlas Range. At the termination of the paved road, and close to Jbel Toubkal, it is the perfect bade for day-trekking through the area, visiting neighboring villages such as Armed, and making the ascent to the world famous summit. If your goal is a stroll through the foothills and taking in the stunning scenery of the area, you couldn’t pick a better place.
Our day hike will take us through Tahnaout and the gorges of Moulay Brahim. This area is well-known for its apple, walnut, and cherry groves and is a lovely example of terraced farming.
At the feet of Jbel Toubkal, Asni serves as administrative center of the region, as well as being a thriving market town. Offering an abundance of breathtaking views of the Atlas Mountains and surrounding landscapes, it is a great place to stop to have a cup of tea in a Berber Caffee. From here, we pass through the village of Armed, which is marked by a lush, verdant basin at the foot of the village. Here we can enjoy an authentic and delicious Berber meal at the Armed Berber house, taking in the amazing views of Toubkal peak. You may also enjoy leisurely pass by the mountain steam Mizane and the canal joining Targua Moulay. The day’s journey concludes in Imlil, and from here you will be transported back to your hotel in Marrakech.
