    This is a great 3-day, basic level hike through the Ourika Valley in the High Atlas, available throughout most of the year.  The journey provides many opportunities to absorb local culture and customs, meeting local Berber tribespeople along the way.


    Tour Itinerary

    DAY1,MARRAKECH—IMLIL—IMNANE VALLEY—TACHEDDIRT

    Your journey begins when we depart Marrakech at early morning. The relaxing drive over Mouly Brahim Gorge takes about an hour and a half and brings you into the foothills of the western portion of the High Atlas. We will arrive at the trailhead in Imlil (1745). The hike sets out through a beautiful region filled with streams and mountain paths, where, led by your very knowledgeable guide, you will hike 2 hours east toward Tizi N’Tamatert (2275m). Passing through the village, your guide will lead you to a path leading up into pine and juniper forests. A stop at the Col of Tamatert allows you to take time to appreciate the view of the Imlil and Imnane valleys, with their many Berber villages built into the mountainsides in every direction. It is a remarkable and picturesque vista of the region. Here you will be able to see Jebel Oukaimeden in the distance (3270m.) We trek on along for another hour or so along the upper valley slopes, arriving at Ouanskera and Amgdoule villages (2140m.). You will find these villages set among the terraced slopes carved into the hard mountainsides. At a place nearby which is a popular camp site, lunch will be prepared for you. Afterward, you will trek upward through the valley along mule trails, arriving at Tachedirt (2305m.) Tachedirt is the oldest village in the Toubkal Massif. The evening will be spent pleasantly in a Berber gite, complete with a welcome hot shower.

    DAY2,TACHEDDIRT—IAABASSEN—TMICHI

    After breakfast, we will begin trekking toward the village of Timichi (1870m), at the western point of the Ourika Valley. Hiking slowly up to Tachedirt Pass (3205m) for 2 and ½ hours, bringing you to a place where you can take in the breath-taking, 360 degree view of Jebel Aksoual (3840) on one side and Bou Igenouane Mountain (3890m) and Angour (3620m). The lush, green Ourika Valley can be seen below. From this point we cross the pass and trek down toward the valley for another 2 and ½ hours, arriving at Iaabassene Village (2040m). Here lunch will be prepared next to a lovely, tranquil spring just beyond the village. After a relaxing lunch, we will continue in a northeast direction, descending for 2 hours trek into the ancient village of Timichi, which sits in among an old-growth orchard of nut trees. Here we take a delicious dinner and bed down in a traditional Berber guesthouse. Today’s trek will take approx. 7 hours.

    DAY3,TIMICHI—AGADIR N’AIT BOULMANE—SETTI FATMA—MARRAKECH

    Today, after breakfast, set out hiking east, along a valley rich with fields of grain and fruit groves, a trek of of 5-6 hours that takes you through the villages of Isghouarne and Tiourdiw, and Agadir N’ait Boulmane. Finishing at the end of the lovely Ourika Valley and the famous Berber village of Setti Fattma. In a peaceful setting in an ancient grove near waterfalls outside of the village, lunch will be prepared by your cook. The afternoon trek will continue for another ½ an hour, when we will meet the transport to bring you back to Marrakech. The day’s journey is a 6-hour walk + 1 ½ hour drive.

    What is included?,

    Transfer from Marrakech(at the beginning of the trek) to Marrakech(at the end),
    Accommodation on the trek in Berber houses or refuges,
    All meals on the trek. Meals will be fresh and prepared by our cook,
    A qualified, experienced English or French-speaking mountain guide,
    Mules, muleteers and cook. The mules will carry your heavy luggage, You will carry a day pack only during the trek,
    Water and snacks,

    Things you need to bring with you:,
