Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

MARRAKECH- IMLIL VALLEY- OVERNIGHT IN A BERBER GUESTHOUSE,

We will pick you up early in the morning from the city of Marrakech passing through Tahanaout, Moulay Brahim and Asni. It takes an hour and a half to reach the village of Imlil.

On the way, you will enjoy the view of a variety of landscapes, mountain streams, colorful rock slopes, valleys and villages.

When we reach the village of Imlil at an altitude of 1,745 meters and the preferred starting point for hikers to discover the High Atlas. From here, we start our walk visiting some villages, passing through waterfalls while enjoying gorgeous landscapes until we reach Armed, the last Berber village at 2000 meters where we will have a delicious lunch.

We will have tea with creps and cake during the afternoon in a Berber family house.

Spend overnight in Armed village. 4-5 hours hike.

Day 2

MARRAKECH-IMLIL-TOUBKAL REFUGE,

We begin from the village of Armed onto Toubkal National park (the oldest parc in Morocco), pass through a juniper forest onto to the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch. We continue east, crossing the river and arriving at the shrine of Sidi Charamouch, a favourite destination of tourists and pilgrims alike. Sitting beside a small waterfall, the village is a jumbled grouping of houses that appear to melt into one another.

Here, we stop to enjoy a delicious lunch cooked by our cook. Here the trail climbs steadily, meandering its way up toward the Toubkal Refuge. After the day's trek of approximately 5-6 hours we spend the night here, in anticipation of tomorrow's ascent to the summit.

Day 3

TOUBKAL REFUGE-TOUBKAL SUMMIT-TOUBKAL REFUGE-IMLIL-MARRAKECH,

We start our day early in preparation for the ascent to the summit of Jebel Toubkal, the jewel of the Atlas. Following the southern cirque, we cross the stream above the refuge and move across one of the many scree fields. The boulders and rock fields require some negotiating. This portion of the trek is fairly simple; however, the scree require some slow pace for better adjustable . The views afforded by the ascent will more than compensate for the effort made. As we crest the ridgeline, we arrive on the plateau. From here it is a short hike to the summit. The views from the peak are indescribable. You will know then why you made the journey. As Pliny the Roman scholar once remarked, the Atlas are "the most fabulous mountains in all of Africa."

We retrace the same way back to the base camp for lunch. Then, continue to Imlil valley and the transport will be provided back to Marrakech. You will be here during the evening.

Berber Guesthouses

Experience authentic Berber hospitality by staying in a traditional guesthouse in the High Atlas Mountains. The accommodation is simple, clean, and comfortable, featuring cozy beds with foam mattresses. During your stay, our experienced cook prepares delicious homemade Moroccan meals using fresh local ingredients, giving you a true taste of Berber cuisine.

Camping

For those seeking a closer connection with nature, camping is available from June to October. We provide spacious, modern igloo-style tents designed for two people, and larger tents can be arranged for taller guests when requested in advance. Each campsite also includes a traditional Berber tent where guests can enjoy freshly prepared meals, relax, and share stories after a day of trekking. If you need accommodation before or after your trek, we can arrange a stay at our village.

Refuge

For high-altitude treks, the mountain refuge offers a warm and comfortable place to rest. Facilities include hot showers, Western-style toilets, a heated lounge with electricity, and dining areas where our team serves freshly cooked meals. To keep the refuge clean and comfortable for everyone, hiking boots are left outside, so we recommend bringing lightweight shoes or sandals for indoor use.

Preparing the right clothing and equipment will make your trek in the High Atlas Mountains safer and more comfortable. Weather conditions can change quickly, especially at higher elevations, so we recommend dressing in layers and bringing gear suitable for both warm days and cold mountain evenings.

Clothing for Trekking

  • Wear comfortable, well-broken-in trekking boots or lightweight hiking shoes with good grip.
  • Pack warm clothing, including a down or insulated jacket, a waterproof jacket, thermal base layers, fleece or wool sweaters, trekking trousers, and moisture-wicking T-shirts.
  • Don’t forget warm socks, gloves, a wool hat for cold mornings, and a sun hat or cap for daytime hikes.
  • Lightweight shoes or sandals are also recommended for relaxing at the guesthouse, mountain refuge, or campsite after each day’s trek.

Equipment for Trekking

Bring a trekking duffel bag or backpack for your main luggage and a comfortable daypack for essentials such as water, snacks, extra clothing, and your camera. We also recommend carrying a sleeping bag, reusable water bottles, sunglasses, trekking poles, a headlamp with spare batteries, sunscreen, lip balm, a basic first-aid kit, and a money belt for valuables.

Note: If you don’t have your own trekking gear, there’s no need to worry. Most essential equipment can be rented or purchased in Imlil at affordable prices, and our team will be happy to recommend reliable local outdoor shops before your adventure begins.
