Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

MARRAKECH-IMLIL-AZIB N TAMSOULT

Departing Marrakech for an hour and a half drive to the trekking centre of the High Atlas, Imlil (1740m). We'll take time to discover the area and hike to the mountain pass of Tizi-n-mezzik (2489m). We will enjoy a field picnic in a juniper forest while enjoying the views of the Azzaden valley. After our lunch we descend into the Azzaden valley to the summer village Tamsoult (2250m). Here we spend the night at the refuge or camp. The day's trek is 5 hours.

Day 2

AZIB N TAMSOULT-AGELZIM PASS-TOUBKAL BASE CAMP.

Today's climb out of the Azzaden valley to Toubkal Refuge is fairly challenging. We pass through via Ighouliden waterfalls and over Aguelzim Mountain (3560m). Again we have the pleasure of a fresco lunch while taking in the stunning views of the High Atlas. Each vista is a beautiful gift from the mountains and trekkers never tire of discovering what lies beyond the next pass. We spend the night at Toubkal Refuge, either at Niltner Hut or Mouflon. This is a great gathering place for trekkers from all over the world and you'll most likely share a bunk room with others preparing for the ascent. The day's trek is 7 hours.

Day 3

TOUBKAL BASE CAMP-TOUBKAL SUMMIT-IMLIL

We rise early to prepare for the ascent of Toubkal, where, if the clouds allow, you will enjoy the sweeping vistas from the Atlas Range to the Sahara Desert. After reaching the summit at 900 m, and enjoying our success we take the well-worn path back down to Armed for the night. This is a long day of 8-9 hours trekking.

Day 4

Imlil Valley- Tizi n'Tichka- Dades

Today, the day's journey starts from Imlil Valley down, passing by Asni, Moulay Brahim Gorges and Tahnoaout and join the way that goes out of the Atlas Mountains up to the winding mountain roads to TIZI n'Tichka, taking in a stark and beautiful terrain. The road takes us through several isolated Berber villages situated along the mountainside and below in secluded gorges. It's a fascinating and realistic glance at the landscape and culture of these rugged and hospitable people.

Once down from the mountain passes we follow the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to the city of Ouarzazate. Here we enjoy lunch and afterward continue to Klaat Mgouna, known as The Valley of Roses. From here you can take in some remarkable views of the valley, kasbahs, and the southern side of the Atlas range. Our final destination is Dades, where we will overnight.

Day 5

Dades- Todragh Gorge- Erg Chebbi

After breakfast, we edepart Dades and head toward Todgha Gorge. Both the Dades and Todgha gorges are deep limestone canyons carved out by their respective rivers, in the eastern section of the Atlas Mountains. After a brief stop, we will continue to our luxury encampment at Auberge Plais Du Dunes, at Erg Chebbi, a sea of windblown dunes, some of which rise to a height of 150m. The customary welcome awaits you at Erg Chebbi, a glass of sweet mint tea and the hospitality of your hosts. Take your time here, enjoy the scenery and ready yourself for the journey to the desert campsite. We drive our camels to camp, get settled and relax in the tranquility of this very special place. After dinner, we relax fireside under a canopy of stars.

Day 6

Merzouga-Marrakech

Our last day, we will begin by watching the sunrise in spectacular over the desert dunes. Afterward, we ride our camels back to your hotel in Merzouga where we will enjoy breakfast. Then, we start our long drive back to Marrakech, stopping at the halfway point at Tizi n'Tichka.

Berber Guesthouses

Experience authentic Berber hospitality by staying in a traditional guesthouse in the High Atlas Mountains. The accommodation is simple, clean, and comfortable, featuring cozy beds with foam mattresses. During your stay, our experienced cook prepares delicious homemade Moroccan meals using fresh local ingredients, giving you a true taste of Berber cuisine.

Camping

For those seeking a closer connection with nature, camping is available from June to October. We provide spacious, modern igloo-style tents designed for two people, and larger tents can be arranged for taller guests when requested in advance. Each campsite also includes a traditional Berber tent where guests can enjoy freshly prepared meals, relax, and share stories after a day of trekking. If you need accommodation before or after your trek, we can arrange a stay at our village.

Refuge

For high-altitude treks, the mountain refuge offers a warm and comfortable place to rest. Facilities include hot showers, Western-style toilets, a heated lounge with electricity, and dining areas where our team serves freshly cooked meals. To keep the refuge clean and comfortable for everyone, hiking boots are left outside, so we recommend bringing lightweight shoes or sandals for indoor use.

Preparing the right clothing and equipment will make your trek in the High Atlas Mountains safer and more comfortable. Weather conditions can change quickly, especially at higher elevations, so we recommend dressing in layers and bringing gear suitable for both warm days and cold mountain evenings.

Clothing for Trekking

  • Wear comfortable, well-broken-in trekking boots or lightweight hiking shoes with good grip.
  • Pack warm clothing, including a down or insulated jacket, a waterproof jacket, thermal base layers, fleece or wool sweaters, trekking trousers, and moisture-wicking T-shirts.
  • Don’t forget warm socks, gloves, a wool hat for cold mornings, and a sun hat or cap for daytime hikes.
  • Lightweight shoes or sandals are also recommended for relaxing at the guesthouse, mountain refuge, or campsite after each day’s trek.

Equipment for Trekking

Bring a trekking duffel bag or backpack for your main luggage and a comfortable daypack for essentials such as water, snacks, extra clothing, and your camera. We also recommend carrying a sleeping bag, reusable water bottles, sunglasses, trekking poles, a headlamp with spare batteries, sunscreen, lip balm, a basic first-aid kit, and a money belt for valuables.

Note: If you don’t have your own trekking gear, there’s no need to worry. Most essential equipment can be rented or purchased in Imlil at affordable prices, and our team will be happy to recommend reliable local outdoor shops before your adventure begins.
