Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

MARRAKECH

We will greet you at Menara Airport and bring you directly to your hotel. If you have travelled with your bike, we'll take it to the shop to be mounted and store your box until you depart. For convenience purposes we've chosen a 3*** hotel close to the bike shop which offers nightly accommodation with breakfast included.

Day 2

KIK PLATEAU

Your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel in the morning. You'll be transported by minibus to an area near Lake Takerkoust, about 45 km southwest of Marrakech. We'll begin our ride on after checking our bikes and gear; we'll start our journey on fairly flat ground, and then gradually ascend to the village of Taghenchoute. From this point we zigzag up to the Kik plateau, which gives a really fantastic view of the majesty of the Atlas Mountains and Jebel Toubkal, at 4167 m, the highest peak in North Africa, and the jewel in the crown of this mighty range. The Kik Plateau is beautiful throughout the year, changing its colors with the seasons: from the many shades of springtime greens to the golden yellows of summer, the russet reds and browns of autumn and the pristine white of winter snowfall on the mountains. Our ride takes us through the terraced mountainsides and local Berber villages, descending into Asni from altitude pretty quickly. If you're in the mood to keep going, we can continue for the remaining 14km on tarmac, arriving in Imlil. If not, we load our bikes onto the 4x4 and take a relaxing ride to Imlil where we'll overnight in a local guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included. Distance riding: 32 km. Altitude gain/loss: 1047m/580m. Minimum/maximum altitude: 460m/1460m.

Day 3

Imlil-Ounasekra-Asni

We begin the day's ride in the foothills of Mount Toubkal, ascending the challenging Tizi n'Tamatart at 2230 m. atop this high mountain pass we can take in the stunning views of the High Atlas, frequently snow-capped and always majestic. From Wanskra village, we'll continue via a dirt track winding down through the valley, and overlooking the deep riverbed (wadi), and terraced mountainsides dotted with villages that seem to dangle precariously. We'll overnight in Asni, where the ride terminates, enjoying dinner and welcome rest in a local lodge.

About The Trek

Essential details, accommodation options, and gear recommendations to help you prepare for your journey with Berber Magic Tours.

At Berber Magic Tours, we believe every great adventure starts with expert planning, honest advice, and exceptional local service. Our experienced team and licensed mountain guides are passionate about sharing the beauty of Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains, Mount Toubkal, and Berber culture with travelers from around the world.

Our certified guides have years of experience leading treks and receive ongoing safety training to ensure your journey is both enjoyable and secure. They are supported by skilled muleteers and well-cared-for mules that transport luggage and camping equipment, allowing you to hike comfortably while enjoying spectacular mountain scenery.

Throughout your trek, you’ll enjoy freshly prepared Traditional Moroccan Berber Meals, reliable logistics, and personalized support. We also provide practical guidance on weather conditions, water, seasonal changes, and trekking essentials, helping you stay prepared in every season. Whether you’re climbing Mount Toubkal, exploring traditional Berber villages, or embarking on desert tours, our goal is to deliver an authentic, safe, and unforgettable trekking experience while supporting local communities through responsible tourism.

Berber Guesthouses

Experience authentic Berber hospitality by staying in a traditional guesthouse in the High Atlas Mountains. The accommodation is simple, clean, and comfortable, featuring cozy beds with foam mattresses. During your stay, our experienced cook prepares delicious homemade Moroccan meals using fresh local ingredients, giving you a true taste of Berber cuisine.

Camping

For those seeking a closer connection with nature, camping is available from June to October. We provide spacious, modern igloo-style tents designed for two people, and larger tents can be arranged for taller guests when requested in advance. Each campsite also includes a traditional Berber tent where guests can enjoy freshly prepared meals, relax, and share stories after a day of trekking. If you need accommodation before or after your trek, we can arrange a stay at our village.

Refuge

For high-altitude treks, the mountain refuge offers a warm and comfortable place to rest. Facilities include hot showers, Western-style toilets, a heated lounge with electricity, and dining areas where our team serves freshly cooked meals. To keep the refuge clean and comfortable for everyone, hiking boots are left outside, so we recommend bringing lightweight shoes or sandals for indoor use.

Preparing the right clothing and equipment will make your trek in the High Atlas Mountains safer and more comfortable. Weather conditions can change quickly, especially at higher elevations, so we recommend dressing in layers and bringing gear suitable for both warm days and cold mountain evenings.

Clothing for Trekking

  • Wear comfortable, well-broken-in trekking boots or lightweight hiking shoes with good grip.
  • Pack warm clothing, including a down or insulated jacket, a waterproof jacket, thermal base layers, fleece or wool sweaters, trekking trousers, and moisture-wicking T-shirts.
  • Don’t forget warm socks, gloves, a wool hat for cold mornings, and a sun hat or cap for daytime hikes.
  • Lightweight shoes or sandals are also recommended for relaxing at the guesthouse, mountain refuge, or campsite after each day’s trek.

Equipment for Trekking

Bring a trekking duffel bag or backpack for your main luggage and a comfortable daypack for essentials such as water, snacks, extra clothing, and your camera. We also recommend carrying a sleeping bag, reusable water bottles, sunglasses, trekking poles, a headlamp with spare batteries, sunscreen, lip balm, a basic first-aid kit, and a money belt for valuables.

Note: If you don’t have your own trekking gear, there’s no need to worry. Most essential equipment can be rented or purchased in Imlil at affordable prices, and our team will be happy to recommend reliable local outdoor shops before your adventure begins.
